Getting married in Chicago: Cook County marriage licence

You need a marriage licence from the county clerk before any ceremony, temple or civil. In Cook County (Cook County Clerk):

  • Fee: $60, issued while you wait.
  • Both partners come together with valid ID showing age; 18 or older (16–17 with parental consent in person).
  • Timing: the licence takes effect the day after it is issued and is valid for 60 days.
  • After the wedding: it must be returned to the clerk within 10 days of the ceremony.

In DuPage County (Naperville, Wheaton, Lombard) the fee is $35, the licence is valid for 60 days and can be used only in DuPage County; the Wheaton office needs no appointment (DuPage County Clerk).

Planning an Indian wedding in Chicago

  • Temple ceremony: the Balaji Temple in Aurora (Balaji Temple) and the Hindu Mandir of Lake County (Hindu Mandir of Lake County) list wedding services on their websites; ask other temples directly.
  • Licence first: book the county clerk visit so the licence is in effect on the day (it starts the day after issue).
  • Vendors: see the confirmed caterers, decorators and photographers in our Illinois guide; we only list vendors we have verified.
  • Guests from India: they will need US visitor visas, so send invitations early.

Finding an Indian partner in Chicago

Chicago's Indian community is spread from Devon Avenue to Naperville and Lake County, so meeting someone with the same language and plans takes more than temple visits. On NRI Hearts you can search members who live in the Chicago area by community and religion. Searches for “Indian matrimony Chicago” are rare, but families looking for a match here usually start with a community or a temple, and we show members nearby.

Every NRI Hearts profile is email-verified and manually reviewed before it goes live; we do not check marital status, visa or employment, so do your own checks too (how to verify an NRI match). You can check kundali compatibility before you talk, and see what each verification badge covers.
